Challenge

A multinational, Fortune 500, global top-10 oil and gas company set a goal to synchronize their Global IT operations across Regional Operations Centers (ROCs) in the US, Europe, and Asia, to ensure IT staff could collaborate effectively, regardless of location. Recognizing that their workforce had evolved to split time between home and office, the company additionally required a solution that empowered over 1,000 employees to effortlessly share and access operational data and dashboards seamlessly anywhere—especially during critical events.

The company sought to modernize their Global IT operations with three primary goals:

  1. Achieve near-instant incident detection for its major Global IT issues, from oil asset disruptions to cybersecurity breaches.
  2. Enable seamless real-time response by granting the Global IT Operations team access to targeted, relevant critical incident information—whether in the control room, at home, or on the go.
  3. Eliminate communication barriers between ROCs in the US, Europe and Asia, where teams are constrained by localized technologies and limited collaboration.

Solution

incident managers were thrilled by visability’s seamless performance right out of the box

The company first discovered Activu and its software platform, visability, through a major global logistics firm that had successfully improved its IT infrastructure using visability’s event-triggered common operating picture (COP) in their global Security Operations Centers (SOCs).

Following a rigorous, four-month proof-of-concept project, the oil and gas company determined that visability was the only solution capable of addressing their needs. Visability uniquely reduced time to discovery for major global incidents while breaking down communication barriers across geographical locations. Operators could access critical information in real time, regardless of their location.

Three key features of vis/ability were instrumental in this success:

  1. Visability Spaces: Virtual video walls that enable IT teams to share real-time information, collaborate on projects, and resolve incidents together quickly, from any device with a secure network connection.
  2. Visability Link: Seamless, application-level integration with existing monitoring platforms—ServiceNow, Splunk, and Moogsoft.
  3. A highly adaptable platform: Auto-generated, adaptive views of mixed-source incident information, triggered by and integrating content from connected monitoring platforms like ServiceNow, Splunk, and Moogsoft. Alerts are automatically delivered via email, SMS, and/or desktop notifications, allowing operators to instantly access the associated virtual dashboard for real-time response.

Result

Immediately after the installation, major incident managers received their first alert and were thrilled by visability’s seamless performance right out of the box. They were able to be proactive, recognize an incident in real time, and share it with the appropriate incident manager. Originally each of the three Global IT ROCs—in the U.S., Europe, and Asia—were fully staffed 24/7. Since adopting visability, the IT Operations team no longer needs 24/7 staffing at three separate locations. Team members can now smoothly hand off incidents as shifts change, allowing around-the-clock support without everyone being in the same control room. A shared dashboard gives all teams a real-time view, making it easy to coordinate with overseas colleagues and keep incident management running without interruption.

Visability has revolutionized the company’s incident discovery by integrating seamlessly with ServiceNow, Splunk, and Moogsoft. For the first time, real-time incident alerts are delivered with full context across the company’s vast digital infrastructure. Alerts are automatically routed to incident managers in all three centers, or a single location, depending on predefined settings, offering unparalleled flexibility and efficiency.

Designed to future-proof operations, visability is fully scalable and integrates effortlessly with additional monitoring platforms as needs evolve. Its cloud-based architecture enables operators to manage critical information instantly and collaboratively—anywhere, anytime—while reducing the need for expensive hardware upgrades. Whether on existing screens or future control room systems, visability ensures operators are always equipped to handle incidents with speed and precision.
